ANEMIA OVERVIEW: CAUSES, ISSUES PRECAUTION, DIAGNOSIS, THERAPY

Anemia is a common condition in which the number of red blood cells or hemoglobin in the blood is below the normal range. Fatigue, shortness of breath, and dizziness can be some of the symptoms of anemia.

ISSUES:-

  1. Impaired performance in daily life due to fatigue, shortness of breath, and difficulty concentrating

2. Pregnancy complications such as premature birth

3. Child growth and development disorders

4. Anemia can cause a fast or irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia).

5. Some hereditary anemia, such as sickle cell anemia, can lead to life-threatening complications.

PRECAUTION:-

It includes some:

1. Iron:

Iron-rich foods include meat, beans, lentils, iron-enriched cereals, dark green leafy vegetables, and dried fruits.

2. Folic Acid:

Found in fortified grain products such as fruits and fruit juices, and dark green leafy vegetables.

3. Vitamin B-12:

Foods rich in vitamin B-12 include meat, dairy, fortified grains, and soy products.

4. Vitamin C:

Foods wealthy in diet C encompass citrus culmination and juices, peppers, broccoli, tomatoes, melons, and strawberries.

DIAGNOSIS:-

It includes some tests. In Assure pathlab all tests are provided including:

1. Complete Blood Count (CBC):-

CBS is often used as a comprehensive screening test to assess overall health..

2. Iron Studies:-

This test is used to determine the amount of iron circulating in the blood, the total volume of blood carrying iron, and the amount of iron stored in the body.

3. Ferritin:-

This test is used to assess iron stores in the body and helps distinguish between iron deficiency anemia and anemia associated with chronic disease.

4. Vitamin B-12 and Folic Acid:-

This test measures the levels of vitamin B12 and folate in the blood and is used to diagnose causes of anemia or neuropathy.

5. Erythropoietin (EPO):-

EPO is a hormone produced in the kidney that regulates the production of red blood cells. It may be used to diagnose the causes of too many red blood cells and to evaluate bone marrow disorders.

THERAPY:-

Iron deficiency anemia:-

Iron deficiency anemia is usually treated by taking iron supplements and changing the diet.

Vitamin deficiency anemia:-

It is treated by taking supplements and increasing the nutrients in the diet. If the body is not absorbing vitamin B-12 from food, additional vitamin B-12 shots are given.

Chronic Disease Anemia:-

Anemia is associated with serious underlying chronic diseases.

Aplastic anemia:-

To treat aplastic anemia, blood transfusions are given to raise the level of red blood cells.

Bone marrow disease anemia:-

Anemia associated with bone marrow disease can be treated with various drugs, chemotherapy, or a bone marrow transplant. Hemolytic Anemia:-Treatment of hemolytic anemia includes blood transfusions, drugs, plasmapheresis, surgery, and blood.

Sickle cell anemia:-

Treatment of sickle cell anemia includes oxygen therapy, pain relief, and intravenous fluids. Antibiotics, folic acid supplement.

Thalassemia:-

For severe thalassemia, blood transfusions, folic acid supplementation, and removal of the spleen, blood, or bone marrow stem cell transplants are recommended
